The Vancouver Canucks are learning why the Toronto Maple Leafs placed David Kampf on waivers, the forward now with Vancouver has been poor in his first 3 games with the club.
"With injuries piling up and starting to cause issues at the National Hockey League level, the Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Patrik Allvin were forced to look at external options, both via trade and the free agent market, for forward help."-Jaxon
Kampf hasn't shown much in his first three games with the Canucks.
Nestor Quixtan of Editor in Leaf has reported on the disappointing results with Kampf so far since joining his new team. It's not just a matter of producing on offence, but his defence is always fading, which is what made him valuable in the first place.
"The result, however, has been perfectly predictable. Kampf has played three games since signing with Vancouver. The result? Three games in which he has yet to score a point, while playing 14 minutes a night. Kampf is officially holding down the second-line spot for the Canucks, but has hardly looked the part."-Quixtan
Kampf was once known to be a defensive and penalty kill specialist, but that seems to be fading, granted he isn't playing on a good team right now. But he hasn't help them improve in that area of the game either.
"Kampf was a minus-3 in his Canucks' debut against the Florida Panthers. That game was an 8-4 nightmare that saw the Panthers score three times late in the third period as Vancouver came unraveled."-Quixtan
There was clearly a reason for Kampf not making the Maple Leafs out of training camp, and then being placed on waivers. But the Canucks do not have a lot of options right, there aren't any middle-six centers available. Hopefully with time Kampf will continue to improve.
