A Vancouver journalist made an intriguing statement regarding the team's play after today's loss in Winnipeg and it will certainly raise concern and awareness around the Canucks:
The structure in the defense would be to blame and not so much the players playing in the structure. Could that be it?
Wow, he's literally suggesting a coaching change and a strategy change. Could that resolve the Canucks defensive issues? For sure there might be a need to adjust the current defensive top6, but the strategy behind them can definitely go a long way.
The Jets' 3rd goal, is an example of the defensive strategy in place with Boudreau. Myers who plays right defense covers Nikolaj Ehlers but once the latter goes behind the net, he leaves him completely free and tries to hide the goalpost. Ehlers is then left alone with Delia. Could've Delia made the save? Probably, but why is he all alone in a prime scoring area with an experienced veteran sitting by the post?
Is a coaching change what the Canucks need right now? I seem to recall a certain St. Louis Blues line-up that was going nowhere in January before Craig Berube stepped in. They ended up winning the Stanley Cup that year. Maybe there's still something that can be done with the current Canucks' team.
