LATEST | Kuzmenko comments on his choice not to wear the pride night sweater
Andrei Kuzmenko's name has been all over the media in the last 24 hours and for the first time this season, it wasn't for his outstanding on-ice performances.
The Canucks held their annual pride night celebration prior to yesterday's tilt against the Calgary Flames and harbored beautiful jerseys designed by the local artist Christina Hryc. However, in the end, it was Kuzmenko's decision not to wear the jersey and not take part in the warm-up.
Kuzmenko spoke through his translator Vitaly Kravtsov to express his thoughts:
''I respect everybody and everybody's choices and hope everybody can respect mine''
He was then asked if he was concerned about his family's safety since his family is still in Russia and declined to give any further comments. Which clearly explains the true motive for his choice. Obviously, if he were to openly state that his family was endangered by such movements it would be doing just as much damage.
