The Pittsburgh Penguins have announced some big news regarding former Vancouver Canucks goalminder Arturs Silovs ahead of Tuesday's season opener.

After a long offseason and training camp, the National Hockey League's 2025-26 season is officially upon us, with a trio of games on tap involving several former members of the Vancouver Canucks, including Arturs Silovs.
Due to the Canucks' goaltending logjam, General Manager Patrik Allvin decided to trade Arturs Silovs to the Pittsburgh Penguins, opting to take a proactive approach rather than losing him for nothing towards the end of training camp on the waiver wire.
"We would like thank Arturs for everything he has done for the hockey club, including helping Abbotsford win the Calder Cup. We wanted to give him an opportunity elsewhere as we feel we are very well positioned in goal at the NHL, AHL and developmental level. Acquiring a future pick and depth forward will add to our organizational depth." Allvin said this summer.

Pittsburgh Penguins make big announcement regarding ex-Vancouver Canuck Arturs Silovs

In a social media post this morning, just hours before they open up the season at Madison Square Garden against J.T. Miller & the New York Rangers, the Pittsburgh Penguins announced that Arturs Silovs will be getting the start in net for Game 1 of 82.
"Head coach Dan Muse confirms that Arturs Silovs will be starting in goal tonight in New York." the Penguins said.
When asked if Silovs will be the team's official starting goaltender this season, Head Coach Dan Muse wouldn't confirm or deny if that'll eventually happen, telling reporters that they're wanting to get a good look at both the Riga, Latvia native, as well as Tristan Jarry.
"Silovs has a good camp. We're going to be looking at both Arturs & Tristan to come up big early this season." Muse said according to Penguins radio voice Joe Brand.
Silovs, 24, opened up late last month about being traded to Pittsburgh, calling it a 'phenomenal opportunity' to play in the National Hockey League on a full-time basis.
"I thought it's a great thing for me, having an opportunity to play. Because, I mean, it's been tough. It's been tough road sitting with the three goalies down there. I think it's a phenomenal opportunity to play in the NHL. I just want to seize it and do my best." Silovs said.

Puck drop for tonight's game between former Vancouver Canucks Arturs Silovs and J.T. Miller is set for 5 p.m. PT, with fans here in Canada able to watch live on Sportsnet1.
