MAJOR | Patrik Allvin gives a major update on Tyler Myers' future with the club
Patrik Allvin is only getting started in the team's 'major surgery'. Since the beginning of the 2023 year, the Canucks' GM has been fairly active, moving out players, with his latest move being OEL's buyout.
The Canucks have repeatedly stated that one of their main objectives heading into this particular off-season would be to make cap space. OEL's buyout gives the team a certain flexibility, and it seemed clear (for us at least) that, given Tyler Myers' contractual situation, he'd be the next piece out.
The team's General Manager held a press conference and gave his thoughts on the big defenseman:
''Patrik Allvin says Tyler Myers will be part of the club moving forward. ''
Myers will enter the last season of a 5-year deal representing a $6M AAV; he's set to receive a $5M bonus late in the off-season, meaning his actual salary will only be $1M until the end of the campaign.
At the end of the season, Allvin stated that it wasn't his intention to use buy-outs. and he ended up buying OEL out. Is he hiding his true intentions? We find it hard to believe that Tyler Myers will remain with the team for the entirety of the 2023-2024 season.
