MAJOR UPDATE | The worst is confirmed for Canucks defenceman Ethan Bear
Vancouver Canucks defenceman Ethan Bear suffered an upper-body injury during a quarter-final win over Finland at the 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship, causing him to miss the semi-finals and the gold medal game.
Bear was able to get into his gear, get his gold medal and celebrate with his teammates after they beat Germany, but just days later everyone's was curious about his injury and status for next season.
Rumours were running rampant last week on whether or not Bear would need shoulder surgery and now we know thanks to CHEK TV's Rick Dhaliwal.
According to Dhaliwal, Bear WILL have surgery this summer on his shoulder.
Bear, 25, is set to become a restricted free agent this summer, but has a qualifying offer of $2.2 million, which the Canucks will issue to him in the coming weeks. In 61 games during his first season with Vancouver, Bear had 16 points (three goals, 13 assists), 25 penalty minutes and was a plus-six.
