Former NHLer Compares the Drama Between J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson to Former Leafs Captain Dion Phaneuf
Former NHLer and Toronto Maple Leaf Jay Rosehill comments on the rift and drama that is affecting J.T. Miller, Elias Pettersson and the Vancouver Canucks locker room, comparing it to how it was like playing under Dion Phaneuf.
As a storied franchise like the Toronto Maple Leafs, being the captain is the ultimate honor, but also holds a tremendous amount of stress, and it appears that Dion Phaneuf took it out on his teammates at times.
According to former teammate and grinder Jay Rosehill, he relates what he is hearing about J.T. Miller to his former captain, saying that Phaneuf used to bully and push guys to their limits, especially the young and impressionable players.
The comparison stems from the stories that have come out of the Vancouver Canucks locker room, where ex-teammates like Brad Richardson confirmed that J.T. Miller would rag and antagonize Elias Pettersson.
Rosehill made a point that when Phaneuf was captain, some players on the Leafs did not respond well to that type of motivation. He said some would thrive, others would not, especially the younger players.
When digesting what Rosehill is saying, J.T. Miller is imbodying the old-school style of hockey that is no longer than prevalent in the NHL today, and you can see why Elias Pettersson and other may take exception to this type of treatment.
