LATEST | 13-year NHL veteran set to retire from professional hockey

While on the SJHN Podcast this past week, longtime National Hockey League defenceman Jason Demers announced that he will be retiring and may make things official next week.

The 35-year-old was drafted in the seventh round (186th overall) by the San Jose Sharks back in 2008. He went on to appear in 700 games in the National Hockey League with the Sharks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers, Arizona Coyotes and Edmonton Oilers where he put up 214 points (45 goals, 169 assists), 407 penalty minutes and was a plus-30.

Demers went on to add while he was on the podcast that he's been in talks with the NHL Network and NBC Sharks about a potential TV role once his retirement is made official.


On the international stage, Demers represented Canada on a couple of occasions, winning silver at the 2017 IIHF World Championship and played for them at the 2022 Winter Olympics.
