The Canucks signed the Latvian centerman Teddy Blueger to a one-year-deal worth $1.9M. After winning the cup with the Golden Knights, Blueger brings precisely the type of experience the Canucks need with their young core.
Traded from Pitsburgh to Vegas days prior to the deadline, Blueger ended playing a big part in the Knigth's quest to the cup. The centerman chose to bet on himself and took a one-year as a 28-year old, hoping that the opportunity given in Vancouver would help him prove his true value. Today, he gave his first official statement as a Canuck:
Blueger's defensive apport is undeniably the reason for his signing, but from the looks of it, he is looking for an opportunity to show the offensive impact he can have. Perhaps he is the 3rd line centerman we've all been waiting for?
Blueger was selected by the Penguins in 2nd Round of the 2012 Draft and grew within the Pens' organization before finding his niche. The last time Blueger was slotted in an offensive role, was back in his AHL Days where he collected 45 points in 70 outings. He had 39 in 45 the following year when he then graduated to the NHL.
