The hockey world is mourning the passing of a former National Hockey League forward and Calder Cup champion at the age of 93 on Friday.
Unfortunately, we have some more sad news to pass along regarding the passing of a former National Hockey League forward and someone who was one of the first stars in the American Hockey League.
Former New York Rangers, Calder Cup winner Bruce Cline passes away
In a post on Facebook yesterday, the Springfield Hockey Heritage Society announced that former NHL forward Bruce Cline has passed away at the age of 93.
"Very sad news came our way Friday, as we received one of those phone calls you wish would never come.
Bruce Cline, a member of the AHL Hall of Fame, Springfield Hockey Hall of Fame, Hershey Bears Hall of Fame, a four time Calder Cup Champion, a SHHS member since our inception, a Hockeyday regular since 2013, and a genuine, humble, amazing person, passed away in Quebec, at the age of 93. You will never be forgotten number nine." the Springfield Hockey Heritage Society said.
Cline began his playing career in 1950-51 when he suited up for the Quebec Citadelles in the QPJHL, spending two seasons with them before making the jump tp professional hockey.
The majority of Cline's professional hockey career was spent in the American Hockey League where he played 13 season and won four Calder Cups, one with the Providence Reds and three in a row with the Springfield Indians.
Cline had a brief 30-game stint in the National Hockey League during the 1956-57 season with the New York Rangers where he had five points (two goals, three assists) and ten penalty minutes.
After retiring from professional hockey following the 1967-68 season, Cline turned his attention to coaching and spent parts of three seasons behind the bench in the QMJHL with the Drummondville Rangers.
In 2016, Bruce Cline was inducted into the AHL Hockey Hall of Fame and seven years later, he entered the Hershey Bears' Hall of Fame, the team he spent the final five seasons of his career with.
The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily are with the family and friends of Bruce Cline at this difficult time.
