Vancouver Canucks Organization Announce the Departure of Coach After Just One Season

The Vancouver Canucks organization has announced the departure of a member one of their coaching staffs after just one seasons behind the bench.
Earlier in the offseason, the Vancouver Canucks made some changes behind the bench at the NHL level as Rick Tocchet departed the organization to join the Philadelphia Flyers, the team that drafted him back in 1983.
With Tocchet gone, the Vancouver Canucks decided to promote Adam Foote to the role of Head Coach and rounded out their staff by hiring Kevin Dean, Brett McLean and Scott Young as Assistants.
There wasn't a whole lot of change for Vancouver's two minor league affiliates, despite rumors that Manny Malhotra may leave the club for an NHL opportunity, which never came to fruition, but over the weekend, a member of the club's ECHL staff left the organization after just one season.

In a press release on Friday afternoon, the ECHL's Kalamazoo Wings announced that Assistant Coach Jon Elliott is departing the club after his first, and so far only, season as a professional coach.
"I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Bill Johnston and Ronda Stryker, Joel Martin, K-Wings hockey operations staff, GM Toni Will, K-Wings front office staff, and the incredible fans in Kalamazoo for an unforgettable year. Your unwavering support and dedication made this past season a truly rewarding experience, both professionally and personally. I'm grateful for the opportunity to have been part of this organization and community - thank you for making it feel like home." Elliott said.
The 34-year-old is heading back to the NCAA next season as Air Force announced the hiring of Elliott as their new Assistant Coach, a role he's held in college hockey before as a member of Miami University (Ohio) two years ago.
"We are very excited to have Jonathon Elliott joining our staff. Jon comes in with a great reputation and possesses both college and professional coaching experience. The expertise he brings to the program will enable him to hit the ground running and make an immediate impact." Air Force Head Coach Frank Serratore said.
With Jon Elliott returning to the NCAA this fall, it now leaves an open spot on Kalamazoo's coaching staff for the 2025-26 season and it's certainly going to be interesting to see who they end up bringing in to run the Wings' power play.
