The Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman appears to be done negotiating with Larkin, after the news broke that the captain was seeking $8.5 to $9 million dollars annually on his new deal.
"The Detroit Red Wings have been generating lots of mediatic attention since the season began, because a lot of their top players contracts are coming to an end. Now it seems some issues have taken care of themselves alone."
Another Red Wing player getting plenty of interest is pending UFA Tyler Bertuzzi. However after many felt Bertuzzi would be available for the trade deadline, Yzerman feels the Wings can still make the playoffs and appears to be using Bertuzzi and possibly Larkin as his own rentals for the remainder of the season.
Canucks can take advantage of this.
Being Bertuzzi is off the market surely forces teams to look for different options such as Brock Boeser which is possibly an improvement over Bertuzzi. Expect the Canucks to get plenty of calls leading up to March 3rd's deadline day.
