LATEST | NHL makes an announcement: Bad News for the Canucks
It's no secret at that point that the Canucks are in a tough spot regarding the salary cap. The teams' latest moves have not helped in that regard either, but according to the team's management, they've made it a priority to find a solution out of this hole, and the draft should set the pace for this summer.
Prior to the beginning of the finals, the longest-standing commissioner in all of the major sports announced that the cap would only go up by $1M for next season and that a larger bump was expected for next summer:
''Bettman says most likely salary cap increase will remain at $1M bump only for this summer. The larger bump comes in the summer of 24''
The Canucks could've used some help, but they will have to wait another year before a substantial cap increase. The Nucks are stuck with hefty contracts (OEL, Myers, Garland, Boeser), some of which are untradeable. Now, Miller's new deal will be kicking in, and Pettersson will be commanding a hefty raise at the end of next season. Along with the team's latest addition, Filip Hronek will also need a new deal.
Can the Canucks figure out a way out of this?
