While it's highly unlikely that Patrik Allvin will want to move on from him this summer, it's being reported by Nick Kypreos that the Canucks could make Thatcher Demko available for trade at the NHL Entry Draft in a few weeks.

Demko, 27, has spent his entire career thus far with the Vancouver Canucks after they drafted him in the second round back in 2014. The San Diego native's best season with Vancouver came during the 2021-22 campaign where he had a record of 33-22-7 in 64 games.

This season, Demko only appeared in 32 games due to injury issues but sported a 14-14-4 record along with a 3.16 GAA, a .901 save percentage and one shutout. Demko has three years remaining on his contract with an AAV of $5 million and will be an unrestricted free agent in 2026.

If the Allvin and the Canucks decide to trade Demko, whether it's at the NHL Entry Draft or at some point over the summer, they're going to have a tough time trying to replace him. When he's on his game, Demko is no doubt a top-15, even top-ten goaltender in the National Hockey League. Goaltenders take longer to develop, meaning Demko is just entering his prime years.

While he had an extremely good showing at the 2023 IIHF World Hockey Championship, earning MVP honours, it's very unlikely that Arturs Silovs takes over the reigns, at least not this season or next. One name that Allvin could target as a replacement if they trade Demko, is Tristan Jarry, who's set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st.
