MAJOR | Insider reveals the price of acquisition for Conor Garland: Fans can't believe it
It's not a secret anymore; Patrik Allvin and the Canucks are desperately trying to move salary in order to have some wiggle room heading into free agency. It seems clear that, at this point, their main focus has shifted to moving the right-winger Conor Garland.
Frank Seravalli released the most recent edition of his trade targets and gave up the Canucks' ask for their veteran winger:
''The Canucks are in salary cap jail, and they know it. The rest of their summer plans cannot be enacted until they free up salary cap space, and they've been actively checking prices on Garland as their preference to move to alleviate their cap concerns. <...> With three years left at nearly $5 million, will a team take a flier? He's essentially a free asset, as the Canucks have found teams that are asking for assets in return to take him off their hands.''
The 27-year-old managed 46 points in his second season with the Canucks; he has 3 more years on his deal, which comes with a $4.95M AAV. Allvin and the Canucks have reached the bottom and need a way out of this mess, and Garland will be the one paying the price.
It's hard to think there won't be any takers for a gritty forward like Garland, who's displayed steady offensive production ever since he's gotten a full-time job in the NHL.
