The Canucks are on the verge of a playoff spot, only a few points out. Is it time to go all-in, maybe hold back a bit, but never overlook the possibility to upgrade the team.
The Canucks acquired Ethan Bear and Lane Pederson recently, which has proven to be a home run so far. Bear is constantly getting better and taking minutes off of Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Tyler Myers. Pederson on the other side of things has been lighting it up in the AHL. They were both acquired at a fairly low cost.
The opportunity to buy low seems to be presenting itself again, as the Predators are currently looking for a trade partner for defenseman Dante Fabbro. He happens to be a right-handed shooter and a BC native. The 17th overall pick from the 2016 Draft class carries $2.4M AAV until the end of the current season and will be a restricted free agent afterward.
As a 24-year-old, Fabbro has yet to reach his full potential and this deal could potentially develop into a steal. He's been playing in the shadows of great defensemen (Roman Josi, Ryan Ellis, Mattias Ekholm, etc) since his career began. Perhaps a change would only do him a favor. So far this year he cumulated 5 points in 26 outings.
