A former Vancouver Canucks Head Coach has found his next job in hockey nearly six months after he was relieved of his duties with the Philadelphia Flyers.

As training camps open up around the National Hockey League it marks the first season since 2021-22 that John Tortorella is not behind the bench.
The 67-year-old spent the last three seasons as Head Coach of the Philadelphia Flyers but was fired in late March, with about three weeks remaining in the 2024-25 season.
While there were rumors linking him to the New York Rangers as an Assistant Coach, Tortorella never ended up returning to his former team and is still a free agent, however he has found himself a new temporary gig in early 2026.

On Wednesday morning, USA Hockey finalized their coaching, management and support staffs for the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano-Cortina, Italy.
In the federation's press release, they announced that former Vancouver Canucks Head Coach John Tortorella would be joining them as an Assistant Coach on Mike Sullivan's staff.
"USA Hockey announced today that John Hynes (Warwick, R.I./Minnesota Wild), David Quinn (Cranston, R.I./New York Rangers) and John Tortorella (Boston, Mass.) have been named assistant coaches for the 2026 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, joining Mike Sullivan (Marshfield, Mass./New York Rangers), who has been previously announced as head coach." the federation said.

Tortorella, a native of Boston, has experience coaching on the international stage, including the 2016 World Cup of Hockey & 4 Nations Face-Off, which made him a solid candidate for a position.
The United States are expected to be one of the top contenders for the gold medal at February's Winter Olympics, which are set to be the first with NHL players since 2014 in Sochi, Russia.
Sullivan and his coaching staff have a ton of talent to choose from for their roster, which will include Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes as he was one of the first six players named back in June and could be joined by his teammate Conor Garland, who attended USA Hockey's Olympic Orientation Camp at the end of August.
The United States will open up their 2026 Olympic schedule on February 12th against Latvia and will also face Denmark (Feb. 14th) & Germany (Feb. 15th) in the preliminary round.
