MAJOR | Insider drops bombshell regarding the Myers deal to San Jose: The return has been revealed
Darren Dreger first reported the news prior to the draft that the Canucks and the Sharks had a deal on the table for the defenseman Tyler Myers. Rick Dhaliwal then confirmed that these talks happened and even confirmed that Tyler Myers' name had been floating around in a LOT of trade talks.
Frank Seravalli dropped a bombshell on the subject just moments ago when he added the potential return to that 'trade on the table':
''My understanding was that the deal on the table was Tyler Myers straight up for
Kevin Labanc''
This deal would've been an exchange of underperforming contracts. Labanc, 27, is entering the last year of a deal in which he makes an annual $4.725M. The winger collected a shallow 33 points in 72 games this year in a miserable Sharks lineup.
Myers, on the other end, still costs the Canucks a $6M AAV on the books. Canucks could have shed an additional $1.3M for next season, while both contracts are set to expire at the end of next season.
The reports don't yet explain the cause of this deal's abortion; we hope to learn more in the upcoming days.
