The Vancouver Canucks are currently looking for a new bench boss heading into the summer.
On April 29, the Canucks announced that Rick Tocchet will not be returning as head coach next season.
Can a familiar foe return as the Canucks head coach next season?
Jeremy Colliton coached the AHL Abbotsford Canucks before moving up to the NHL level. Last summer, he accepted a role to coach alongside Sheldon Keefe in New Jersey.
Before accepting the role with the Devils, Colliton led a struggling team for three seasons with the rebuilding Chicago Blackhawks and posted a record of 87-92-6.
Recent reports are surfacing now saying that if Colliton had stayed with the Canucks organization in Abbotsford, he would have been the leading candidate to take on the head coaching job in Vancouver next season.
If this is true it basically means management can't put their egos aside to give him the job now because he left them.
Great way to run a billion dollar business
Dan Riccio and Satiar Shah discussed the likelyhood of Colliton returning to Vancouver in their recent show of Canucks Central on Sportsnet 650.
🗣 "Had Jeremy Colliton stayed, he probably would have gotten this head coaching job."
@DanRiccio and @SatiarShah get into the possibility of some familiar faces returning as the #Canucks new bench boss.
The Devils were plagued once more with injuries this season, which ultimately led to their first-round exit in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
When healthy, the Devils proved to be one of the most dominant teams in the NHL.
We'll have to wait and see if the Canucks approach Colliton for a potential head coaching position in Vancouver.
He may just be the perfect fit to help rejuvenate a Canucks team that had a very challenging season.
