An Edmonton Oilers legend was reportedly unhappy that the team decided to trade away Evander Kane earlier this summer after four seasons with the organization.
Kane was quite thrilled by being traded to his hometown team and with the Canucks searching for a top-six forward this summer, it seems like it'll be a good fit, even if it is just for one year given that he's set to become a free agent next July.
"With that said, I'm incredibly excited for the next chapter of my career as I join the @Canucks . It's an honor to become part of an organization and team I grew up watching as a kid. Vancouver is a city that lives and breathes hockey, I'm looking forward to the opportunity to play in front of my hometown as I did many years ago as a Vancouver Giant." Kane said in June.
While some Edmonton Oilers fans weren't surprised that Evander Kane was the one dealt to clear cap space, one of the team's all-time greats was reportedly not very happy with Stan Bowman's decision.
Edmonton Oilers legend Paul Coffey reportedly not happy with team trading Evander Kane
For the last two seasons, Paul Coffey has served as an Assistant Coach for the Edmonton Oilers, the team that drafted him sixth overall in 1980 and won three Stanley Cups with.
By being behind the bench for the past couple of seasons, Paul Coffey knows Evander Kane quite well and even though the Oilers legend was stepping back from his coaching role for an advisory position, he reportedly wasn't happy that the 34-year-old forward was traded.
According to the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast, Coffey wasn't pleased with the team's management group when it came to trading Evander Kane, with the three-time Norris Trophy winner believing that he's a player that they should've kept and re-signed given that he has a deep connection with the community in Edmonton.
"We are hearing that Paul Coffey wasn't happy with the management staff in regards to trading away Evander Kane to the #Canucks
Coffey expressed why a player like Kane would be someone keep & resign because how deep his connection is in the community, he lives in the City year round. His connection with his teammates & team staff is also very strong. Kane brought a lot of people together & had a role within the team that will be hard to replace." the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast shared on social media.
Kane was quite the productive player for the Edmonton Oilers while primarily playing a middle-six role, registering 20+ goals twice while with the Alberta club and Vancouver Canucks fans are hoping he can replicate that this coming season.
