"Pavel Bure is Making an NHL Comeback" - Vancouver Canucks Legend Recalls Ultimate April Fools Prank

On April 1st 2009, the 38-year-old Vancouver Canucks legendary forward Pavel Bure pulled off one of the most memorable pranks that the league has ever seen, and Canucks fans still feel it today.
There are only a handful of players that are able to play at age 38 and above, let alone make a comeback to the NHL after 6 years of not lacing the skates up, but that is exactly what Pavel Bure planned to do, but nobody realized what the date was.
Vancouver Canucks fans came close to a heart attack when Team 1040 broadcasters Barry Macdonald and Scott Rintoul, with of course the help from the Russian Rocket himself, fooled everyone that he was going to be returning to the organization.
«The most exciting player in the history of the organization, knee injuries shortened his career, or did they? He's apparently in terrific shape,» Macdonald told Team 1040 listeners in 2009.
It was not just a rumor where an analyst was speculating about a return, but Bure actually going live on the air to delve into the details on how he had been training, working out and skating in order to make the comeback a reality.
«Yeah, you know I've been working out really hard, and I've been skating, you know, getting ready,» Bure said oh so casually during the five-minute phone interview. «I talked to some people from the Canucks organization. Yeah, [my comeback is] probably gonna happen soon.»
Fans all over the league believed it as Bure and the two hosts stayed completely serious through out the 5 minute interview.
«Well, obviously I'm a little bit older than I used to be, but my knee feeling great. I was doing rehab, building muscle around the knee, and I feel really good,» Bure said, adding that he figured he could help the team in shootouts.
It took a whole for fans to catch on, but it will for sure go down as one of the funniest bamboozles Canucks fans have ever been part of.
