The asking price for a potential Vancouver Canucks trade target has been revealed this week and as everyone was expecting, it's quite high for a number of reasons.

As the month of August rolls along, we're getting ever so close to the return of hockey and for the Vancouver Canucks, we're exactly two months away from the start of their 2025-26 regular season schedule, but could we see some more moves from Patrik Allvin in the weeks ahead?
Back in July, it was reported by Thomas Drance of The Athletic that the Vancouver Canucks weren't done adding to their roster and needed to clear up some cap space first in order to do so.

Cost to acquire Anaheim Ducks' Mason McTavish has been revealed

The Canucks General Manager was able to moving out some money by sending Dakota Joshua to the Toronto Maple Leafs, which cleared up an additional $3.25 million for him to work with, $775K of whichwent to forward Vitali Kravtsov, who returned from Russia to sign a one-year deal with the club
With the Canucks still likely eying a bigger move before training camp begins, one player that has been on their radar this summer, Mason McTavish, remains a restricted free agent and the cost to acquire him via trade has been revealed.
In a recent article on RG.org, NHL reporter Jimmy Murphy revealed that a source told him that the starting point in a Mason McTavish trade would need to be a right-shot defenseman with top pairing potential down the road.
"Unless you're willing to get creative and knock Pat's socks off with a monster offer, I don't see him getting traded at this point. A right-shot, top-four and future top-pairing defenseman would be the starting point from what I know. I don't see the Wings moving Moritz Seider, so you're likely talking Axel Sandin-Pellikka." the source said to Murphy when discussing Detroit's potential interest.

The Vancouver Canucks do have that exact piece in their system - Tom Willander - a 20-year-old Swedish right-shot defenseman who absolutely has the potential to become a top pairing defenseman in the National Hockey League in the years to come.
If Patrik Allvin wants to bring Mason McTavish in through a trade with Anaheim, he'll have to think on it a bit and ponder - would I rather keep a young blueliner with top pairing potential that could eventually be a replacement if Quinn Hughes decided to leave? Or, should I get a sure-fire second line centerman who can help right now and is just 22-years-old?
It's certainly a tough situation, but with Vancouver desperately needing to get over the hump and into the Stanley Cup Playoffs this season with the core they currently have, bringing in someone like Mason McTavish would go a long way in achieving their goals, even if it means parting ways with someone like Tom Willander.
