The NHL has been taking lots of heat this year for the lack of punishment on their star players. They've been accused of favoring players like Connor McDavid, Sidney Crosby, and now Alexander Ovechkin.
Ovechkin and the Caps were playing the Rangers. In a particular sequence during the game, Ovechkin went wild and lost it on Barclay Goodrow. In this particular sequence, Ovy could've been awarded anywhere between 6 to 10 penalties for blatantly slashing and cross-checking the Rangers forward.
The sequence heated up fairly quickly and it ultimately led to a scrum in the middle ice. The referees had enough of the Great 8 and chose to send him to the lockers. Obviously, Ovy wasn't pleased to hear the call and chose to applaud the referees as he left:
Ovechkin clearly expressed his disappointment, after a sequence like this one he totally deserves to get thrown out. However, the NHL needs to step up and penalize the superstar for his major disrespect to the game's officials.
