A former Stanley Cup champion has been mentioned as a potential free agent option for the Vancouver Canucks this summer as Patrik Allvin looks to make some additions.

Vancouver Canucks President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford shared last week that they will be aggressive this offseason in order to avoid missing out on the Stanley Cup Playoffs for a second consecutive year.
A second line center, potentially a top-six winger, and some veteran leadership will be at the top of Patrik Allvin and Jim Rutherford's list as we get closer to the draft and the opening of free agency, which is set for Tuesday, July 1st.

In the last couple of weeks, we've heard about potential second line center options, a possible Brock Boeser replacement in the top-six, but when it comes to depth, there hasn't been much talk about who the Vancouver Canucks could target, until now.
In an article on Daily Hive, Noah Strang examined some of these options, if Allvin and Rutherford want to add a veteran forward to their group and among the names mentioned is former Stanley Cup champion Reilly Smith.
"It feels like Reilly Smith will likely sign an extension with the Vegas Golden Knights but if he doesn't, he makes a lot of sense for the Canucks. He won the Stanley Cup with the Golden Knights in 2023 and will hit the 1,000-game mark for his career next season if he stays healthy." Strang said.

Smith, 34, would bring plenty of experience to the Vancouver Canucks, if he were to sign with the club this summer, with 919 regular season games under his belt and is coming off his second straight season with 40 points after spending this past season with the New York Rangers and Vegas Golden Knights.
While Reilly Smith isn't the same player he during his first stint with the Vegas Golden Knights, he can still provide veteran leadership to a Canucks team that's in desperate need of someone like him in the dressing room and could play a third line role for Adam Foote.
