A big update was given this week on the availability of potential Vancouver Canucks trade target Mason McTavish, who is still awaiting a new contract from the Anaheim Ducks.

As the Vancouver Canucks continue to evaluate their options to make another addition to their roster before training camp, one player they've been linked to is Anaheim Ducks restricted free agent forward Mason McTavish.
"Hence their continued interest in Roslovic, as well as their interest in Mason McTavish, the Anaheim Ducks' restricted free agent. Of course adding McTavish, the third-overall pick in the 2021 draft, will be very hard: he's a highly-regarded player with huge upside and will cost a big price in trade, perhaps more than the Canucks can afford." Patrick Johnston of The Province said.

Less than a month after that report of Vancouver's interest in the former top-three pick, another insider has given a big update on McTavish's availability this summer.

During an appearance on BPM Sports Radio in Quebec, Marco D'Amico of RG.org shared that while Mason McTavish checks a lot of the boxes for the Montreal Canadiens - another team who has been very interested, the Ducks forward isn't available for trade after all.
Note: the following is translated from French
"McTavish checks all the boxes for the Canadiens, but he is not available." Marco D'Amico said.

Frank Seravalli also gave an update on the Mason McTavish situation earlier this week, saying that at this point, it doesn't feel like he's going to get a change of scenery this summer and that the threat of an offer sheet is non-existent.
"He was a hot topic...a guy who I think could potentially use a change of scenery; I don't think that's ultimate going to happen...don't see him as an offer sheet candidate." Seravalli said.
With Mason McTavish now reportedly off the market and not available for trade, the Vancouver Canucks will have to pivot elsewhere if they still want to bring in another centerman before the season begins and perhaps they could even re-engage in talks with the Minnesota Wild for Marco Rossi, after making an offer for him nearly two months ago.
