A former first round pick was recently mentioned a possible professional tryout option for General Manager Patrik Allvin to consider before training camp opens.

The Vancouver Canucks are 15 days away from the start of training camp and the after a somewhat busy July, especially on the trade front, the organization is hoping that they have the right pieces in place to take a run towards a top-three spot in the Pacific Division.
However, August ended up being a pretty quiet month for the Vancouver Canucks, despite the club wanting to add to their roster and at this point, it seems more likely than not that they'll begin the season with how things stand currently, but there's always an possibility that Patrik Allvin goes down the PTO route.
Every September, we see an influx of UFAs sign professional tryouts (PTO) which include an invite to training camp and the opportunity to prove yourself during preseason game and with some intriguing free agents still available, it's certainly an avenue that Patrik Allvin and the club should take a look at pursuing.

Former first round pick named as possible PTO option for Vancouver Canucks

In a recent article for Canucks Army, Tyson Cole looked at some unrestricted free agents that the Vancouver Canucks could target for a professional tryout in the coming weeks.
Among the names mentioned by Cole is 26-year-old Russian winger Klim Kostin, who was a first round pick of the St. Louis Blues back in 2017.
Cole believes that even though Kostin struggled to get playing time with the San Jose Sharks last season, he would be a good pickup for the bottom-six, especially from a physicality stand point after losing Dakota Joshua in a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs in July.
"As one of the bottom feeders in the league, the Sharks even struggled to find a consistent roster spot for Kostin. However, he's proven he can be a power forward in the NHL, and should be on the Canucks radar if they end up dipping into the PTO pool." Cole said.

Kostin, a native of Penza, Russia, appeared in just 35 games for the Sharks last season where he picked up seven points (one goal, six assists), 27 penalty minutes and was a minus-six, while also adding 111 hits - an average of 3.17 per game.
While the Canucks have a bit of a logjam in the bottom-six as things stand currently, it wouldn't necessarily hurt to bring someone like Kostin, who has nearly 100 NHL games under his belt, to camp on a PTO is something that Patrik Allvin should absolutely consider doing.
